A Common Parasite: Entamoeba Histolytica
Mar 05, 2024Parasites π¦ are so much more common than you think!! Today I want to highlight a nasty one called Entamoeba Histolytica.
Here are a few fun facts about it:
ππ» It infects 30-55 million people worldwide
ππ» More common when living or traveling to tropical areas
ππ» Transmitted through contaminated food or water
ππ» Pets can be a source of exposure
ππ» Sexual contact may also be a source of exposure
ππ» Can affect the liver and cause liver accesses
ππ» Can spread to other organs like the lungs and brain but is not as common
ππ» Causes leaky gut
ππ» Can cause abdominal pain/cramping and loose stools
When we see this pathogen, we also take a good look at the calprotectin and SIgA levels to see what their inflammatory and immune response is.
Then create a protocol using the 5R Method:
βοΈ Remove: includes antiparisitic herbals and essential oils
βοΈ Replace: digestive support to improve overall digestion
βοΈ Reinoculate: recolonization with pre and probiotics
βοΈ Repair: improving the immune system, decreasing inflammation, repairing the gut lining
βοΈ Rebalance: we work on sleep, diet/lifestyle, movement, stress
It is a process but having a gut that is healed and being free of symptoms whether GI related or extra-GI manifestations (weight gain, brain fog, hormone imbalance, poor immunity, skin breakouts, etc) is worth it’s weight in GOLD!!!
